What You Can Expect when Getting Veneers

Veneers are one of the most sophisticated cosmetic dental treatments out there. These thin porcelain shells are capable of altering the shape and color of your teeth, giving you an immaculately beautiful smile within as little as two appointments.

You might naturally wonder what will happen over the course of those sessions with your dentist. If you’re interested in what veneers have to offer, it’s understandable to want to know what you’re in for. Here’s what you can expect from the process of getting veneers.

Consultation

As with any treatment, the first step will be consultation with your dentist. At this appointment, they’ll talk to you about your needs and what kind of treatment would be ideal for you.

If you and your dentist decide that veneers are best for you, they’ll talk to you about any preliminary procedures you’ll need and what your treatment timeline will look like.

Preparation

In order for the veneers to sit flush with the rest of the teeth, a small portion of your enamel will need to be removed. Your dentist will numb your mouth before doing this in order to ensure your comfort throughout the process.

Once this is done, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth in order to inform the design of your veneers. They’ll also take the time to pick the color for your cosmetics, and to modify the designs so that they can give you the smile you’re looking for.

Creation

The designs created by your dentist will be sent to a lab, where they will be crafted by experts to perfectly suit you. This process will take a few weeks. During this time, you’ll be outfitted with a set of temporary veneers in order to protect your modified teeth, as well as giving you an opportunity to see what your final restorations will look like.

These temporaries will be adhered with a fairly weak dental cement, meaning that you’ll have to be a little bit careful about what you eat.

Placement

Once your veneers have been completed, you’ll come back to your dentist’s office in order to have your cosmetics placed. After this appointment, you’ll leave their office with a beautiful smile you’ll be happy to show off!
